Joined with VPN on and instantly banned for "racism"

I just joined the beginner east surf server today with VPN enabled (Mullvad VPN on an endpoint in New York) and was instantly banned for "racism". I have a good amount of personal records and played with the voice and text chat disabled most of the time so I could just focus on surfing. I didn't realize joining with a VPN could get me banned, and I would have gladly turned it off if I had just known.

If I could have any help in this matter that would be greatly appreciated
