Serious question...you know how a roller coaster can't go forever since the cart will eventually run out of energy at some point? Are surf maps and the HL2 engine the same way? Does every map without a speed boost need to be downhill or the surfer will eventually run out of speed?

If the ramp is perfectly horizontal, no.
If the ramp is tilted upward then yeah you're eventually going to stop and go backward.

The physics are meant to represent reality as much as possible.
As stratex has already answered though, yes.
If you open up really long linear maps in hammer, you can see the ramps continually go down without teleports or boosts.
If you want to know the details of the physics engine used in HL2 you should try contacting Hugh Reynolds. http://ksfclan.com/forum/images/smilies/32%20%2819%29.png

If you surf extremely smooth, on ramps without segments, then you can land higher than you started because when you hold a strafe key you are accelerating.

laws of physics apply to surfing to some degree, but i wonder, why ask such a question? is there any backstory to this?
