Internet connectivity problem

Sooo I cant connect to steam or vent on my colleges wifi network. I can connect to any other internet based program I have tried, so I dont get why these in particular would not be working. Even if I use and ethernet cable, it still doesnt work. Help? Also, Acid if you could change the vent port to 443, I could probably connect. If the steam thing is a port issue, I'm pretty much fucked though.
